Abdominal adhesions influence far more than digestion. They affect breathing, posture, gait, pain patterns, and recovery after surgery or injury. This three-part series is designed to deepen your clinical understanding and sharpen your palpation skills so you can work with abdominal tissues safely, confidently, and effectively.

The workshops blend anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology with guided, applied palpation, giving you tools you can use immediately.

• There will be recordings of the classes posted for you.
• If you want NCBTMB credit, you must attend the LIVE class. Watching the replays only will not allow me to issue your certificate.

Abdominal Adhesions 101

Build a strong foundation by exploring the layered structure of the abdominal region. This will include a practical and detailed understanding of:

• Bones (particularly ribs and pelvis)
• Structural and visceral muscle (striated and smooth)
• Fascia, serosae, and other forms of connective tissue
• Nerves
• The “VAIL” understanding of circulation: veins, arteries, integumentary, and lymph
• How all of these tissues relate to one another in health and restriction.

Structure of Class:

• Anatomy & physiology of abdominal tissues (55 min)
• Break
• Guided, applied palpation to identify layers and restrictions (55 min)

Abdominal Adhesions 102

Abdominal adhesions rarely act alone. This workshop explores how restrictions (adhesions) in the ribs and lower extremities influence, and are influenced by, the belly.

This will include a practical and detailed understanding of:

• Regional joint function
• Structural/functional muscle
• Structural/functional connective tissues, including fascia

Structure of Class:

• Anatomy & kinesiology of the ribs, legs, and abdomen (55 min)
• Break
• Applied palpation to assess functional relationships and tension patterns (55 min)

Understand what’s happening at or beneath the surface when tissue adhesion doesn’t resolve on its own.

• Pathophysiology of edema, inflammation, adhesions, and related complications (first half)
• Applied palpation to recognize tissue presentations and adapt your approach (second half)

• Pathophysiology of abdominal tissues (55 min)
• Break
• Guided, applied palpation to identify layers and restrictions (55 min)

• Licensed Massage Therapists
• Manual therapists including PTs, RNs, and other hands-on providers working with post-surgical, chronic pain, or complex cases
• Clinicians who want to improve assessment skills and clinical reasoning around abdominal work
• Those who have abdominal adhesions – while this is aimed to help practitioners improve their abilities, those who have adhesions will gain a lot as well. I always aim to keep my teaching down to earth and not overly-technical.

No matter how long you’ve been practicing or experiencing adhesions, this series is designed to clarify, not overwhelm—connecting science to touch in a practical, respectful way.
